Chickenshack, founded in 1994 is a housing co-op based in North Wales. It has a long standing commitment to permaculture design and has hosted many related courses, gatherings and events there since then. I am a founding member and this is my blog of some of what I have learned along the way.
Well its just above freezing outside this morning, but the air is clear and the sun is shining quite strongly. Now the snow on the solar panels has melted I have just checked the temperature - its 58 degrees c up there and the hot water tank in the house is heating up nicely - amazing.

I am interested in sustainable development, natural history and becoming more interested in gardening and sustainable agriculture. Not all serious! I am into humour, music and drama. I am also run a small webhosting service for community and sustainable orientated sites and occasional. I have recently got very involved with the Llanfyllin Workhouse project and am working on their fund raising team My home has been a small hill farm and housing co-op in Wales since 1994. Before that i have spent some years abroad mainly east Africa, Zimbabwe, India, Canada and the States. I was born in Wolverhampton, and grew up on a farm in Shropshire.

Hi there all - Jo here!!! Wow!! Looks like I got outa there just in time (although it's been pretty cold here in Portugal too)!! Love the photos Steve - keep em coming will you!!?? I'm now a big fan and avid follower of the Chickenshack blogs!! Did you get the job and how are the numbers going for the course? I'm doing lots of weeding in the olives and grapes here and having a ball!! Still only on my 1st wwoof farm.......

oh this is great, Hi Jo, how is portugal, yes well you missed the snowfall. its been cold as well, but its back to being a rainy spring now.
think we have two people so far and now potentially the next vol, guy called Niels, will keep you posted on that one - he sounds interesting, sent me loads of stuff about this dryland permaculture project in Brazil. . Isn't technology wonderful eh? thanks for the photos you sent, lovely to meet yo Jo, love from us all here x
oh yes and i put the picture of the finished willow hurdle you were weaving, just in case you logged in so i am so glad that you did!
and as for the gardens job, its looking very positive, i am going down to Reading next week to make a presentation, i am quite excited!
